Oh I, I just died in your arms tonight
It must have been something you said
I just died in your arms tonight

I keep lookin' for somethin' I can't get
Broken hearts lie all around me
And I don't see an easy way to get out of this
Her diary, it sits by the bedside table
The curtains are closed, the cats in the cradle
Who would've thought that a boy like me could come to this

Oh I, I just died in your arms tonight
It must've been something you said
I just died in your arms tonight
Oh I, I just died in your arms tonight
It must've been some kind of kiss
I should've walked away
I should've walked away

Is there any just cause for feelin' like this?
On the surface, I'm a name on a list
I try to be discreet, but then blow it again
I've lost and found, it's my final mistake
She's loving by proxy, no give and all take
'Cause I've been thrilled to fantasy one too many times

Oh I, I just died in your arms tonight
It must've been something you said
I just died in your arms tonight
Oh I, I just died in your arms tonight
It must've been some kind of kiss
I should've walked away
I should've walked away

It was a long hot night
She made it easy, she made it feel right
But now it's over, the moment has gone
I followed my hands not my head, I know I was wrong

Oh I, I just died in your arms tonight
It must've been something you said
I just died in your arms tonight
I, I just died in your arms tonight
It must've been some kind of kiss
I should've walked away
I should've walked away

Personally, I think "deluded" is right on the money.

Essentially, the narrator has fallen in deep for this woman, but he's found out that he's just "a name on a list"--he's one of many other conquests for this woman. He knows he's in trouble, but he can't help himself. What he thought was a one night stand has grown beyond his ability to control it.

This is a very interesting switch of the usual roles--the man is the innocent, here, and the woman is the playa.

About the word "died"--this isn't a literal death, and I don't really think he's talking about an org*sm, per se. Instead, he's talking indirectly about this situation he's in. He might as well be dead, because he knows how badly this is going to hurt when all is said and done, very much like the phrase "I died of embarassment." He even talks about it being his "final mistake," as if this hurt will be very bad.

This is open to interpretation, however. I concede that the reverse interpretation is also valid--that he tried to play this woman and fell deeply in love with her. Only Nick Van Eede knows for sure. ;)

This is definitely one of my favorite songs from the 80's.

This is a song about a dude who got involved in a relationship for a quick bit of fun or on the heat of the moment. However, it has gotten deep and he must've told lies about himself and now he has gotten too far in. However, she must be a player of some sort 'cos she has broken hearts before and he is just a name on her list so to speak. That is my quick take.

good, but not the whole, here's the rest. the guy wanted a quickie, and that ws it. but then he died. not dead, but his old player self died, and he was reborn casue he fekll right in love with her. hey it happens. and when it happens to people of the player persuasion, it happens quick.,. so this guy is in love and now has to tell her all about his past, and it hurts, but he can't keep anyhting form her. that's my tke anyway

this song definitely has the sexual element to it..""It was a long hot nightshe made it easy, she made it feel rightBut now it's over, the moment has goneI followed my hands not my head, I know I was wrong"If you ask me, this girl was kind of like the 'IT' girl, that everyone seems to be falling for"Broken hearts lie all around me" and he himself doesnt see himself getting out of the situation with ease. Its just the effect the girl has on people..because of her stunning exterior, or how good she is in bed, would be anyone's guess.Guess the Diary part/segment of the song is pretty obvious, he just happens to chance upon her little book of secrets, and takes a dig at it, something very uncharacteristic of himself by his own standards. What he finds inside, my take on it would be, as it was sung "Is there any just cause for feeling like thisOn the surface I'm a name on a listI try to be discreet but then blow it againI've lost and found, it's my final mistakeShe's loving by proxy, no give and all take'Cause I've been thrilled to fantasy one too many times" he wasnt the first to have come across her estatic sexual prowress. he's just a name for the books, just having a fling with him.

"whoaaaaa whoaa, oh I just died in your arms tonight etc..."Just proves to show how much of a drug she's alikened too, but he's in too deep, there's no turning back..he knows its probably bad news, but He's in love with her.So this is my guess on it,Its one heck of a classic slow rock-ballad track, one of the absolute best,if you guys intepret anything differently please do put it up here

    two thoughts....

one, it almost sounds like the girl was a prostitute. whether he fell in love with her or not is irrelevant, but it was a decision made in the heat of the moment that he regretted.

two...i totally agree with what everyone else has said about how he loves someone who doesnt love him back, but the song is written so loosely it could almost be the opposite too...as in he knows that it is wrong to do whatever he did with the girl because it is leading her on, but he got into it at the heat of the moment. well, it probably still makes more sense the other way.it could also be about a physical relationship that interferes with (or was constructed with the idea of benefitting) work, and now hes realizing he is in a very sticky situation.

anyway, amazing song...leave more comments....i absoultely love the line "i should have walked away"

okay, so i know i was the last person to comment on this song so i look like a total loser, but whatever.

so today i learned that "died" in shakespearean times could be used to mean having an org*sm. and i immediately thought of this song.

anyway, that sort of puts an interesting spin on things. just wanted to throw that out there

It's about a boy who loves his girl in a deep way and he would die in her arms like me with Rachel!

While Tomd and Deluded seem to be right, the more I read the lyrics, the more it seems Thumbelina was on to something with the prostitute idea. There's several lines that would imply this.

"I'm a name on a list" and "All take and no give" would definately imply this. Also "Who would've thought a boy like me could come to this?" and "I should've walked away" would imply the regret of going with that kind of girl.

I think a big line to note was "Loving by proxy" though. As an adjective "proxy" means "acting as substitute for another" which well... Apply that line to a woman and lights flash prostitute all over.

And the very last verse -"It was a long hot nightBut she made it easy, she made it feel rightBut now it's over, the moment has goneI followed my hands not my head, I know I was wrong"

Going to a prostitute would be uneasy and tense, but it's their job to make it feel easy/right, as she did. In the end, if you replace hands with "little man" (if you get my drift), it makes a lot more sense. And in the heat of the moment, using your head isn't really how it goes down.

So, a different take, but I'm not sure exactly what Cutting Crew intended.

Occassionaly I wonder about literacy in this country. Try looking at it fromt he opposite direction. Someone looking for love gets shafted by someone looking for sex.

He only wanted an one night thing but fell in love with her after all, and now he's not feeling like himself. It definitely has something sexual in it, but has got nothing to do with premature ejacul*tion :S.He just realised he wants more than this, but that's so not like him. It's a conflict inside him.

Light Up The Sky Van Halen The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it. Fast Car Tracy Chapman "Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time. The Night We Met Lord Huron This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines:"Take me back to the night we met:When the night was full of terrors: And your eyes were filled with tears: When you had not touched me yet"So, the first night was not a great start, but the narrator pursued the relationship and eventually both overcame the rough start to fall in love with each other:"I had all and then most of you"Like many relationships that turn sour, it was not a quick decline, but a gradual one where the narrator and their partner fall out of love and gradually grow apart"Some and now none of you"Losing someone who was once everything in your world, who you could confide in, tell your secrets to, share all the most intimate parts of your life, to being strangers with that person is probably one of the most painful experiences a person can go through. So Painful, the narrator wants to go back in time and tell himself to not even pursue the relationship. This was the perfect song for "13 Reasons Why" Cajun Girl Little Feat Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future.Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere"The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you” American Town Ed Sheeran Ed Sheeran shares a short story of reconnecting with an old flame on “American Town.” The track is about a holiday Ed Sheeran spends with his countrywoman who resides in America. The two are back together after a long period apart, and get around to enjoying a bunch of fun activities while rekindling the flames of their romance.
